The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) reports that the travel and tourism industry is on track for a historic rebound in 2025. As travel jobs 2025 creation and economic contributions are set to exceed pre-pandemic levels. According to its latest Economic Impact Research.

Sector Set to Generate $11.7 Trillion and 371 Million Jobs

In a remarkable sign of resilience and renewed momentum. WTTC projects the global travel and tourism sector will contribute a record-breaking USD 11.7 trillion to the global economy in 2025. This figure represents 10.3% of global GDP, signaling strong recovery and growth across many regions.

The sector will support 371 million jobs worldwide by 2025, adding an estimated 14 million new roles across the globe within a single year.

International Spending to Hit Record $2.1 Trillion

In 2025, international visitors will spend USD 2.1 trillion — surpassing 2019’s total by USD 164 billion and showcasing the industry’s resilience amid global economic uncertainty.

Mixed Recovery Patterns Across Regions

Despite the upbeat global outlook, recovery has not been uniform. Some major markets are still trailing their pre-pandemic performance:

  • United States: International spending remains below 2019 levels and is not expected to fully rebound this year.

  • China: After a strong performance in 2024, growth is forecasted to taper off significantly in 2025.

On the other hand, several countries are experiencing an impressive upswing:

  • Saudi Arabia: With a bold vision and USD 800 billion pledged towards tourism development by 2030, the Kingdom is leading the sector’s revival.

  • France and Spain: These European hotspots continue to attract record tourist numbers thanks to strategic investment and international promotion.

Strong Momentum in 2024 Sets Stage for 2025 Surge

Looking back, 2024 was a year of solid growth:

  • Global economic contribution: USD 10.9 trillion — up 8.5% from 2023.

  • Job support: 357 million positions, nearing pre-pandemic highs.

  • International spending: Rose nearly 12% to reach USD 1.87 trillion.
